Investigating the effect of sugar on teeth

This half term we have been looking at health and nutrition in science.

We carried out an experiment to look at the effect of sugar on teeth.

We could not use actual teeth so we used eggs as their shells have a similar make up to teeth, being made of calcium.

6 boiled eggs were placed in jars and a different drink was added to each jar. The drinks we tested were milk, water, coke, diet coke, apple juice and blackcurrant cordial.

Everyone made predictions about what we would see after a week in the drinks and which drink contained the most sugar.

The results of the experiment surprised many children as the apple juice had the greatest effect and so the most sugar.
